El concepto básico para el diseño de esta vivienda en Pekín ha sido el uso de diferentes materiales y de cambios espaciales para desdibujar el límite entre el interior y el exterior. La relación entre las distintas superficies crea un entorno abierto, rico en capas y hace que el espacio interior se deshaga de la limitada decoración y vuelva a un ambiente de vida natural, sencilla, tranquila y oriental.

El proyecto es una casa de tres pisos diseñada por Archstudio y Magic Penny,  se ubica en una zona residencial en los suburbios al este de Pekín. El primer piso y el sótano están conectados, formando un espacio que se utiliza para recibir a los visitantes. El segundo piso, que es para la vida diaria, tiene entradas y salidas independientes.

El diseño de la primera planta se desarrolla alrededor de la sala de estar y sala de estudio, la parrilla de roble y los estantes se utilizan para colocar, exponer y exhibir los libros pero también para generar la sensación de capa semi-transparente desde el exterior al interior. En el salón de té se usa pintura de cemento gris que combina con la encimera y mesa superior a medida de hormigón, de esta manera el contraste de caja gris con el fondo dará lugar a la experiencia espacial de diferentes escalas. La misma técnica se utiliza en el diseño de la sala de estar y dormitorio. Para la planta sótano, el diseñador reintegra la relación entre el jardín hundido y el espacio interior, el bosque de bambú en el patio crea interacciones paisajistas entre las vistas interiores y las exteriores. El garaje subterráneo se convierte en una habitación brillante. Se utiliza una "Cúpula" en el salón de la segunda planta para suavizar la relación entre el techo y la pared, lo que hace el espacio interior suave y lleno de cambios.

Han Wenqiang, was born in Dalian, Liaoning, China. He graduated from the Architecture School of Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2005, and since then he has been teaching there. Combing his teaching, he founded 2010 his office in Beijing ARCHSTUDIO.

He mainly researches contemporary architectural and interior environments based on traditional cultural backgrounds. He advocates carefully reading the particular requirements and constraints of every specific project during the design practice, constantly breakthrough and challenging limitations, and continuously deepening the whole process from concept to construction details as well as transforming the relationship between the inside and the outside, the old and the new, the artificial and the natural. He devotes to making the space to be the communication medium between people and people, people and environment, so as to create a livable life.

His major projects include Tea House in Hutong, Waterside Buddist Shrine, Organic Farm, etc. His works have won Building of The Year by Archdaily, LEAF Awards, Interior Design’s Best of Year Awards, Taiwan Interior Design Gold Award, etc. His works have been invited to participate in different exhibitions, such as Contemporary Architecture in China, Harvard, The Gwangju Design Biennale in South Korea,  10x100 - An Exhibition of 100 Architects for the 10th Anniversary of UED, etc.
