The 'new contemporary art' fair URVANITY presents the SPECIAL PROJECT OKUDA SAN MIGUEL by IQOS in its third edition. An exhibition by way of installation done ex profeso that brings together almost 20 unpublished works by the artist from Santander. It can be seen between February 28 and March 3 in COAM (c / Hortaleza, 63), venue of the fair.
The exhibition 'The Rainbow Mountains' by Okuda San Miguel is a return to its most surrealist era. Inspired by his mural The Secret Mountain (Crans Montana, Switzerland, 2015), the artist combines some of his most common themes (man and nature, freedom, metamorphosis ...) with ideas raised in his latest works (places idyllic, mutant creatures, dystopias ...). A single show that invites us to immerse ourselves in the singular universe of Okuda during the biggest appointment of new contemporary art in our country.

SHOWS ONLY PROGRAM: DAN WITZ, MISS VAN, JAN KALÁB AND SAM3

In addition, this year, URVANITY presents a program of Solo Shows, as part of its Special Commissariat Program, with exhibitions that show the union of street art with a more academic side, starring artists Dan Witz, Miss Van, Jan Kaláb and Sam3 .

The program is curated by a committee of independent curators consisting of Sabina Chagina (co-founder of the Contemporary Urban Art Biennial ARTMOSSPHERE, in Moscow), Sergio Pardo (architect and curator) and Juan Bautista Peiró (Doctor of Fine Arts and University Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Polytechnic University of Valencia).

Okuda San Miguel. Born in Santander in 1980, Okuda San Miguel currently resides in Madrid. Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, his unique iconographic language of multicolored geometries and patterns has made him one of the most recognized artists in the world. In his work, geometric architectures are mixed with organic forms, bodies without identity, animals without heads and symbols that encourage reflection through artistic pieces that could be classified as Surrealism Pop, but with a clear essence of the streets. His works often raise questions about existentialism, the universe, the infinite, the meaning of life and the contradictions of false freedom, showing a conflict between modernity and our roots. Ultimately, between man and himself.

Parallel to his outdoor work, in 2009 Okuda started his own studio practice, exhibiting later in galleries in India, Mali, Mozambique, the United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil, Peru, South Africa, Mexico and almost the entire continent. European. Among his most famous projects, we find the conversion he made at the end of 2015 of an abandoned Asturian church (Kaos Temple), now a new icon of contemporary art, or the rehabilitation of a castle in the Loire Valley (France) with its characteristic chromatic range.

Dan Witz (Wunderkammern). With a career spanning almost four decades, the paintings of Dan Witz (Chicago, 1957), seemingly dark and punctuated with punk, often hide an intimate understanding of the human condition in its most primal form. From his artistic interventions in the streets of New York in the 70s, Dan Witz has developed his career based on the belief that art is necessary, not only to challenge, but also to change the dominant systems of society. The same can be seen in his acclaimed series Mosh pits. Recently presented in collaboration with the French fashion giant, Dior, these hyperrealist masterpieces are astonishing to capture moments of passionate intensity on the part of groups of people imbued with mass.

Miss Van (Fousion Gallery). Under the pseudonym Miss Van 'hides' Vanessa Bensimon (1973). This artist from the city of Toulouse although based in Barcelona is a reference of street art around the world. She is known mainly for her poupées -wings- (as she calls them), which focus practically all her artistic production. A mixture of women and girls with feline eyes and long, sensual, voluptuous and mysterious lashes that have evolved over time. Miss Van collects elements of the feminine universe and reinterprets them with an aesthetic that is close to classical beauty, enhancing her and keeping her more emotional and authentic side intact.

Jan Kaláb (Prague, 1978) - formerly known as Cakes and Point - is one of the most important authors of international geometric and urban abstractionism. Founder of the DSK crew, Kaláb traveled throughout Europe and America, developing his style until his characteristic 3D graffiti. As a result of these experiences, he began creating installations with abstract letters that he places on the streets or hangs along the walls, looking for new dimensions. Since 2007 he explores the infinite nuances of abstract painting on canvas, expressing his own language through a perfect balance between the compression of forms and minimalism, capable of generating surprising effects of depth and dynamism.
