The project of the Madrid-based art collective Boa Mistura: RE-ACT, landed in Miami as part of Miami Art Week last December. A collaboration with Doral Contemporary Art Museum and the PONCE+ROBLES gallery, it gives rise to an artistic exploration of the tension between individual actions and their effects on public space.

Continuing the line of research opened with the RE-VS project at the last edition of the ARCO2023 fair, Boa Mistura once again uses the exhibition framework of the gallery to explore the tension between the private and public spheres through two mural formats that interact with each other.

Boa Mistura reflects on the elements that form the identity of a city and its permanence in identity and collective imagination, through a large-scale mural located outside the Laundromat Art Space gallery, and a fragmented replica composed of 30 original paintings for sale inside the gallery.

As an invitation to reflect, the significance of the mural depends on the action of the collectors, who acquire a piece that replicates the mural. The acquisition of the original paintings before 48 hours, saves the corresponding fragments in the mural from their total disappearance from the city mural.

"This project invites us to think about the effects that our individual actions have on public space", says Pablo, a member of Boa Mistura. Reflecting on the transitory nature of his work, Pablo adds: "Our work is ephemeral by nature, because it is in public space. Over time they disappear, sometimes due to the direct action of human desire, and other times due to the passage of time itself, completely and advertising will be placed in their place. This is the harsh reality that we have to face all the time."

The process of disappearance was broadcast via streaming, with twenty-one of the thirty fragments that made up the mural being saved from disappearance. As a result, the final mural is a collective reaction to individual decisions by collectors reflected in the city's canvas.

Boa Mistura. The work of Boa Mistura is all about the love of graffiti, colour and life. This group founded by 5 Spanish artists is, as the name says, a good mixture. Arkoh, Derko, Pahg, Purone and Rdick have developed their work in different fields, applying both a diversity of styles and the different views of each member. Boa Mistura represents a mixture of perspectives which complement, influence and mix themselves together in order to create something better. From graffiti and mural painting, to graphic design and illustration, Boa Mistrua want to give the world its colour back. 5 heads, 10 hands, just one heart.

Boa Mistura is a multidisciplinary group whose roots are in graffiti, currently directed by Javier Serrano, Pablo Ferreiro and Pablo Purón. The group works in various fields: from the latest trends in graffiti and street murals, to illustration, graphic design, studio painting and collaborations with interior designers and architects.

They have taken part in exhibitions in art galleries such as the Reina Sofía Museum and the Casa Encendida in Madrid, and the DA2 Museum in Salamanca. They have collaborated with foundations such as ONCE (Spanish national organisation for the blind), Oxfam and Antonio Gala, and given lectures at universities such as Madrid, Seville and Alcalá de Henares.

Boa Mistura has completed projects for brands such as Google, Microsoft, Sony Music and Adidas and in 2010 a Latin Grammy nomination for best cover design. The term “Boa Mistura”, from the Portuguese for “good mixture”, refers to the diversity of style and perspectives of each member. Love for graffiti, colour and life. Distinct visions which complement each other, influence each other, and always combine to create something even better.
