Madrid is part of Open House Worldwide, the first network of architecture festivals in the world, visited by millions of people in more than 40 cities (London, Lisbon, New York, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Milan, Rome, Sydney, etc.).
In this VII edition of Open House Madrid, it follows in the wake of the previous ones since its first edition was held in 2015, this time with the collaboration of the Madrid Young Tourist Guides Association, which under the motto "Rethink the city", seek to promote the reflection of life towards the future within the city through the exchange of ideas, within an edition marked by the strange circumstances of the present time that we have lived and that seems to last over time both at the level of society and from the city itself.
This future of cities is not as far away as we think since day by day the city grows and changes, so we must guarantee the innovation and sustainability of our urban environment, within this ever-changing life where not only we change, but we so does architecture and the way of understanding and living it.
Congress "Re-thinking the future":
The main motto of the 7th Open House Madrid Congress is "rethinking the city", addressing key aspects related to the future of cities. The objective is to promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences in urban environments in a transversal way.
The 7th Open House Madrid Congress will, as always, have the best professionals in each sector to illustrate from their perspective a piece of knowledge on the chosen topic.
Rethinking the city:
Cities are very relevant, not only for the world of architecture and urban planning but also for the economy or politics. Added to this are forecasts such as the increase in the urban population, which will double in forty years, representing an accelerated change of unprecedented magnitude in the history of mankind.
Regardless of the causes, this pressure for growth has a direct impact on the functioning of the city and its government, as well as on the quality of life of its inhabitants, so we must ensure that cities maintain their essence as spaces of innovation, culture, and well-being. Therefore, equality and sustainability are two of the objectives to be achieved, despite the challenges of each city and its point of development.
Homes are going to be different, workplaces are going to change dramatically, the business function is going to be reinvented through e-commerce, and distance education is tending to explode. Cities are going to change and that is going to make people want to work where they would like to live.
Rethinking the way of building a city also implies rethinking the way we learn to build a city. Cities need interventions that translate into long-term solutions but respond to evolving needs and complexities.
That is why in this edition we will be able to see new buildings to which the ordinary user did not have access before, in addition to other better-known ones such as the Zarzuela Racecourse, the Giner de Los Ríos Foundation, or the Casa de Cisneros.
