For the 4th edition of OPEN HOUSE, the festival pays homage to the architect Fernando Higueras. You can visit several of the architect's works as well as enjoy an exhibition of photographs of his work. In addition, a photo contest of Fernando's projects will be held: the prize, enjoy a night at the Lucio Muñoz house.
Between the last buildings incorporated to the festival they are the House of the Reader in the old Slaughterhouse; the School of Mines, the N @ ve (former Boetticher Factory), the Ministry of Agriculture - Palace of Development, the Italian Consulate - Palace of Santa Coloma, the headquarters of Save the Children or the Vincci Capitol Hotel 4 * on the Gran Vía from Madrid.

Yesterday, June 21, 2018, the fourth edition of the Open House Madrid architecture and city festival was presented at the Fernando Higueras Foundation. The co-directors of the festival, Paloma Gómez Marín and Pati Núñez, announced the novelties for this year. The first of these is the extension of the program of activities and extension of the festival, which will take place throughout the month of October. The circuit of buildings that open its doors also extends to other locations in the metropolitan area and around Madrid.
NEW BUILDINGS ON THE CIRCUIT
Among the new buildings that are incorporated into the festival are the Casa del Lector, a project of Ensamble Studio located in the old Slaughterhouse converted into a municipal nursery of companies linked to design; the spectacular Casa Villaseñor by Fernando Higueras in Torrelodones, the School of Mines (with a visit to the Geominero Museum and the Minas de Río Rosas), La N @ ve (former Boetticher Factory) in Villaverde of the Ch + qs Churtichaga-Quadra Salcedo studio, Ministry of Agriculture - Palace of Development, the Italian Consulate - Palace of Santa Coloma, the headquarters of Save the Children in charge of the Elii Studio, or the Vincci Capitol 4 * hotel in the emblematic Art Deco building on the Gran Vía in Madrid.
TRIBUTE TO FERNANDO HIGUERAS
The festival will focus this year on the figure of architect Fernando Higueras. In the circuit of buildings that may be visited this year are his projects Casa Lucio Muñoz, the aforementioned Casa Villaseñor, the offices in Serrano 69, the Institute of Cultural Heritage (Corona de Espinas), the military housing in San Bernardo street or the own Fernando Higueras Foundation known as Rascainfiernos, an underground construction that began in 1972 and was the architect's studio and home until his death in 2008.
The program also has an exhibition of photographs of his work curated by the architect Jacobo García-Germán, author of Fernando Higueras book. Canary Islands and Las Salinas. García-Germán highlighted the important footprint that the architect Higueras left in the city of Madrid, and stressed that, despite having a recognized and awarded work, has rarely been exposed to the general public.
Likewise, a Living Higueras workshop will be held with the European University and a contest on Instagram with the collaboration of Casa Lucio Muñoz.

The fourth edition of Open House Madrid stands out for the expansion of its program of activities and collaborations, and for the extension of them throughout the month of October. Special visits to interior design studios, architecture, art workshops, private homes and historical routes through the city are scheduled. Exhibitions have also been scheduled in the field of art and design, disciplines that are complemented by architecture.
Among the activities there is a film and architecture cycle at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, a route for women architects, as well as exhibitions, installations, workshops for architects, activities for the general and family public, and conferences on architecture.
The collaborators ARUP, Propamsa, Idealista, Bulthaup, ST Valuation Society and Monapart will organize parallel activities and outstanding routes within the festival.

Open House Madrid does not only show the heritage of architecture, it will also reflect on the future of it. The fourth edition of the Open House Madrid Congress will be held on September 28 in the Centro Centro auditorium. Under the title "Cities. What's next? "Recognized architects and experts will debate about the new city models.
Moderated by the journalist and historian specialized in architecture Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, the congress will revolve around the relationship between city and architecture, and the responsibility of the architect in the future of cities. Previous editions of the Open House Congress have included experts such as Tatiana Bilbao, Iñaki Ábalos, Carme Pinós and Santiago Cirugeda.
For this 2018 edition, the congress will feature experts in different disciplines such as the architect Andrés Jaque, the photographer Dionisio González and the philosopher Fernando Castro.
CITIZEN PARTICIPATION
Open House Madrid is a festival that seeks the involvement of all citizens. Therefore, a key figure of this initiative is volunteering, people who will add value to the visits by acting as guides and managing visits to the spaces. The number of volunteers increases with each edition. Today the festival has a figure of 350 registered for volunteering and it is expected to reach the figure of 600 volunteers from the previous edition.
