Exquisite Corpse at Matadero Madrid is a dialogue between film, architecture, design, photography, fashion and art in Madrid’s latest cultural laboratory. It stages a performance between the architect’s static structure and the dancer’s body in movement.

In collaboration with the dance group New Movement and music producers "The Boilerhouse Boys", Exquisite Corpse brings together performative and visuals arts to explore interdisciplinary work and create a unique cultural environment.

This event is a result of the collective work of the AA Interprofessional Studio alongside professionals such as Andy Dean (Boilerhouse), Ariadna Cantis (promotion and curation of architectural and contemporary cultural projects), Heiko Kalmbach (!lmmaker, theatre director and video artist), Steve Webb (WebbYates) and Nick Crosbie (In"ate).

Exquisite Corpse at Matadero Madrid is the first of three works-inprogress growing from Madrid to Cologne and London.

Matadero Madrid: a huge laboratory for art experimentation and interdisciplinary dialogue.

Matadero Madrid, the former slaughterhouse and meat market, is a lively and constantly changing space at the service of creative processes. It promotes activities, stimulates contemporary creation, and has become today a unique lab for experimentation and promoting new crosscutting formulas. Each project is used to present an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to all forms of creation, with emphasis on research, production, training and dissemination.

As renovation works continue to adapt its 148,300 m2, Matadero Madrid continues apace with its artistic activity: performing arts, visual arts, design, music, dance, architecture, city planning, landscaping, fashion, literature, thought and film.

Several different teams are currently working at Matadero Madrid with the shared goal of promoting contemporary creation in their own field of action: Las Naves del Español, which centres on the performing arts; Intermediæ, which promotes ideas on creative processes; and the Design Centre, a platform for promoting graphical, industrial, interior and fashion design. These will gradually be joined by other public and private organisations related with documentary cinema, literature and new media, architecture, and visual arts.

New Movement is a collective of choreographers with a long collaborative working history, both as dancers and dance-makers with Europe’s leading Ballet and Contemporary companies. By creating a nourishing and supportive environment for artistic growth, this new generation of artists are creating work of the highest standard, constantly challenging each other to push the art form forwards. Developing work that is directly presented in response to different and unusual theatrical settings, New Movement aims to increase the visibility of their work with aspirations of changing and evolving the landscape of contemporary theatre.

The AA Interprofessional Studio – operating as an interdisciplinary creative office – stimulates professions to develop a communication language across creative disciplines. It acts as an invitation to build a network of experts from creative backgrounds as diverse and complimentary as performance, design, music, film, photography, fashion, communication and curation. Through workshops and symposia, and combining each creative language, the studio brings people together to work and study on concrete projects reflective of the various fields of research. The AA Interprofessional Studio is the first course at the AA to search for professionals from diverse creative disciplines to take part in the design process of each interrelated project.
