Danish studio Henning Larsen Architects is responsible for the project located at the iconic Ipanema Beach overlooking Christ the Redeemer statue and in close connection to the lively neighborhood of Ipanema.

As the only national house, the Danish Pavilion is located at the iconic Ipanema Beach overlooking Christ the Redeemer statue and in close connection to the lively neighborhood of Ipanema. The light construction consists of aluminum masts and sail cloth illuminated by an alternating LED lighting design at night. The pavilion covers 3250 ft2 including bar, press room, and exhibition area.
Entitled “Heart of Denmark” the pavilion is to host a variety of activities and exhibitions centered on Danish design, innovation, art, and culture, etc. Moreover, the pavilion will act as a gathering point for the Danish athletes, representatives and audience. The aim of the pavilion is to strengthen Denmark’s reputation worldwide. The prominent location is expected to help attract attention from the international press, companies, guests, and tourist alike.
VisitDenmark, the Ministry of Business and Growth, The Danish Industry Foundation, Realdania, Nordea Foundation, and Grundfos make up the partners behind the project. Furthermore, a gathering of 27 companies and organizations take part as project partners, contributors and collaborators. The Danish Pavilion is designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Alectia, John Mast, OneSails, and the lighting company Martin Professional.
The 2016 Summer Olympics are held from August 5th-21st. The pavilion is open to the public from the 3rd to the 21st of August 2016 in the period from 11am to 10pm.
