Ecuador Association of Architects organizes since 1978 the Pan American Quito Architecture Biennale. For that reason, just a few months for the biggest event of architecture in the continent, the Biennale presents the event called "from the house to the city, from the city to the house" as an excersice of focus and blur, from November 17 to 21, 2014.

The Panamerican Architecture Biennial in Quito (BAQ2014), in its XIXth edition, organizes the most recognized architecture event from November 17 to 21, 2014.

The event called "from the house to the city, from the city to the house" is presented as an excersice of focus and blur. The first guides its attention or interest in a particular issue or problem and the second disturbs something´s meaning or sense.

As time goes on, society and evironment change, looking for men´s convenience. Therefore, the architecture is designed to seek the well that was not achieved previously. The question to ask is:

Are we still doing the same, given that the conditions changed? Are we doing well? Are we aware of the implications of our way of doing architecture? Men creates imbalances, it is therefore necessary to analyze and modify them.

The more conscious human being is about transformations and their impact and consequences on the natural system will be more capable to avoid this intentional and collective blindness.

The BAQ2014 wants to expand the architecture´s vision , increase it´s attention focus, of an anthropocentric view to a more complete ecological view, integrating our speech with other disciplines.

The seminar will be held during the week with the following topics:

Monday 17: from the individual to the community, is a city a real collective construction? How to build citizenship from inclusion, social participation and the right to the city?

Tuesday 18th: from the disciplinary to interdisciplinary, how to break the architectural offices´ isolation? How the architect's vision extends from the networks and the contribution in different areas of practice and knowledge?

Wednesday 19: from consumption to resource, how to abandon the concept of resource to redefine it as a resource? How architecture can contribute to the balance between nature, production and consumption?

Thursday 20: from object to the system, can the architectural object adapt to change? How to pass from a single architecture that has value in itself, to an architecture that relates, that is flexible and open?

Friday 21: from the house to the city, it is feasible a self-sustaining house and city? How can we rethink housing from the understanding of the city?

National and international lecturers will contribute their knowledge to improve an architecture that concerns both the social and ecological.

When.- From 17th to 21st of November, 2014.
