Cities are in constant movement. Its inhabitants move, bicycles, thoughts, ideas, cars, businesses move and along with them, wishes move as well. The best demonstration of life in a city is its own movement.
Spaces, minds and streets that do not move, lack of life and few or nothing is what they contribute to the city. The immobilized mass is the same as a society without wishes, defines by a reality that seems not to contribute with anything, but at the end a reality.
The MIO14 event is a massive invitation in the frame of the XIX Quito Pan-American Architecture Biennial 2014. It will take place Friday the 21st of November at 12:30pm.
It consists of a walk from the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana, where the event is held, to the 24 de Mayo Boulevard where the closing event will take place.
The walk is based on the theme of the BAQ2014 edition “from the house to the city, from the city to the house”.
We pretend to use the city as a scenario where the participants are able to discover the dynamics that convert the city into a democratic space, but above all the idea is to make conscience to understand that the appropriation of public space depends on the our participation as citizens and not of the physical conditions of these spaces.
MIO2014 is the opportunity to recognize the city as a space where we can identify ourselves and whose appropriation depends on us and our actions.
