When monotony overwhelms. Dive Into This by John Matthias & Jay Auborn

Choreographer Anthony Missen delivers a routine performance that explores the overwhelming monotony of an unchanging routine and its global impact on human life, in a short dance film created to accompany John Matthias and Jay Auborn's latest song, Dive Into This.

What seems to be a strange sound, a buzz (in this context, a word with a double meaning) becomes a symphony that draws you in. The office worker is actually a robot, before breaking out of his (literal) programming. At the same time, the computer seems to have a life of its own. What's wrong with the office worker, is he failing or dancing?

"The video depicts a character, perhaps a machine, perhaps human once, maybe still. Stuck in the grind of an endless routine. All they need is a chance, a glitch that sparks an awakening. What follows is an internal conflict to see who, or what will come out on top."

"The tech isn’t particularly unique, and there are several products and home-made setups that use solenoids to play instruments or which are used in installations, for example. We were focused more on the creative implications and possibilities."
