STILL by Akira Uchida x Clyfford Still Museum

Coinciding with the ARCO Fair in Madrid, we present this video between dance and Clyfford Still's work.

Akira Uchida partnered with the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver to shoot a dance film inside the museum, with one great art collection. He explored the parallels between contemporary dance and Abstract Expressionism through the work of Clyfford Still.

In its essence, Abstract Expressionism emerged after World War II as an emotive and reactionary response to the strict figurative forms that came before it, and American artist Clyfford Still was one of the defining figures in its conception.

Director and choreographer Akira Uchida pairs movement with the work of painter Clyfford Still. The dancers create contrasting fluid shapes throughout the piece moving by the paintings surrounding them in the Clyfford Still Museum. “As dancers, we use our bodies to express complex ideas, sensations or feelings, often transcending the capabilities of language,” says Uchida.
