With this flagship store for the French fashion label Céline, Valerio Olgiati has clad the boutique inside-outside, from top to bottom in Brazilian Pinta Verde marble. The pale-blue colour makes the pieces seem to float as if they were on clouds, virtually weightless. Delicate, grey-white wisps of colour run through the exquisite material, giving it an endless look. “This is a place where an internal universe can be imagined” is how the architect describes his design.

The Céline flagship store is located in the middle of the Miami Design District. Surrounded by countless fashion, culinary and cultural hotspots, the store’s primary aim is to represent the brand’s identity in just under 500 m².
The two-storey boutique is conceived as a canopy-like structure that organizes itself around a single flight of stairs. Olgiati has structured the two levels with supports and pillars, some of which taper to a point and fulfil no constructive function at all.

While the ground floor is a display space, - encompassed by a pyramid that breaks through the suspended ceiling and leads customers upwards, the upper level features shoes, bags and prêt-à-porter garments. Olgiati has structured the two levels with supports and pillars, some of which taper to a point and fulfil no constructive function at all.

The stairway and columns are of exposed concrete complemented by subtle, grey furnishings, sleek lighting strips and bronze-coloured details.

Project description by Valerio Olgiati

A marble shell is laid over an existing two-storey structure. The facades, floors, walls, ceilings are entirely made of marble. The blue-green Pinta Verde from Brazil is exceptional and creates a wonderful atmosphere for Céline.

The exhibition space on the ground floor is a canopy, held by concrete pillars. These columns connect the entire building to the foundation. The virtual world exists in parallel with the physical. Above is a space deep inside the marble, where shoes and ready-to-wear are displayed. More tent than boutique, this is a place where an internal universe can be imagined.
