The project by Gustau Gili Galfetti for the Primary assistance center in Llinars del Valle, Barcelona, establishes a continuous dialogue between the inner spaces and the outside ones with both the circulation areas and the consultation rooms.
The architect responds to the city surroundings by lining up the building with the street with the design of a corbel. This element is the element that covers the main access to the building. In addition, the access level is connected with the street level through the use of a slopes system.
The central inner courtyard gives the order to the proposal and it is also used to provide the consultations rooms with the necessary privacy and daylight illumination.
Description of the project by Gustau Gili Galfetti
It is proposed as a compact construction with a low impact with the use of economic and industrialized constructive systems.
The building, with a right-angled volume, is located in a low-density area that predominates sports facilities and parking areas related to the city town center. In the upper part of this area is located the dispensary. One volume with a corbel appears on one of the corners, lining up the building with the street. It is precisely at that point where is located the access to the building. A series of slopes are used to overcome the topographic grades between the street level and the building access level, a bit lower, allowing to appear an outside garden.
The building orientation is thought in order to face the two longer façades both to the east and west. A longitudinal courtyard is opened in a central position, facing north and south orientation. This courtyard introduces daylight to the lower part of the building and provides cross ventilation.
In the consultation areas, circulations and waiting spaces are organized in visual contact with the outside, emphasizing the public nature of these spaces, while the consultation rooms are open to the inner courtyard.
The building is a compact volume, low-rise, which presents a continuous façade built with two precast elements: a lattice of concrete for the translucent parts and GRC panels for the opaque parts. The precast lattice of the façade responds to a single large model which is positioned horizontally or vertically, providing a variety of solutions to the façade according to the same constructive element. This lattice gives privacy to the users of the center and acts as a sunscreen on exposed facades. But also guarantees both indoor and exterior facades, a vibrant and changing aspect according to the slight variations that make a compact, economical, industrial, concrete building that may itself be a friendly, warm building comfortable.
