Nude is one of the most common genres in Czech Republic photography and František Drtikol symbolizes the transition between the traditional pictorialism to avant-garde. His early work in the beginning of 20th century, in the symbolist and modernist manner, progressed into the new aesthetic movements such as futurism, constructivism, and surrealism, as it can be seen in the exhibition, which comes for the first time in Spain.
These are around thirty studio photographs wiht a dynamic mise-en-scène. The composition, in most cases, are diagonal with noticeable visual and lighting contrasts. The element line has an important value, not only for the visual run over the picture but also for the imaginary direction of the models' glances. In some cases, they suggest something hidden by the visible objects or even what is out of the frame.
Drtikol employs a very directional light to draw long shadows and to remark the geometrical possibilities of nude. The models pose on leaning surfaces to emphasize dynamism and the advanced legs, crossed cords and long sticks creates the movement illusion.
