Humanæ is an ongoing project by Brazilian artist Angélica Dass (Río de Janeiro, 1979), that aims to display a chromatic inventory of the different tones of human skin. The people that pose for the photographs are volunteer participants, there is no previous selection whatsoever, and no clasification according to nationality, gender, social class or religion. Also, there is no explicit intention of ending this work before a defined time deadline. This taxonomy initiated by Angelica has adopted the format of the PANTONE® Guides, one of the main color clasification systems. The colors are represented through an alfanumeric code, which allows for them to be recreated identically on any material: it is a technical-industrial standard. The process followed in Humanæ is also rigurous and systematic: each portrait is placed on a background tinted with the same color as a 11x11 px sample extracted from the face of the model.
The jury is composed by art collectors Pilar Citoler, Natalia Escudero and Eladio Mora. They chose Daas' work because of the "complex approach of the artist, that gathers different interests: art, sociology and research. The Honorable Mention was for Fernández Braso gallery for the exhibition Eros and Rites, by Isabel Muñoz, which can be visited until July 13th. The show gathers photographs made in La Paz (Bolivia), and Bombay (India), where Muñoz has worked between 2012 and 2013. The jury recognized the "brilliant result of Isabel Muñoz's work, from the aesthetic point as well as from the anthropologic point".
