The project is characterized by following the same pattern as the current Lycée Français, with special emphasis on its sustainability. For this, it takes full advantage of natural light, with the use of the glass and ceramic lattices. At the same time, interior courtyards favor cross ventilation within the entire school.
Description of project by Alegría Zorrilla, Berta González and Des Clics et des Calques studio
The construction of the new children's school for the Lycée Français of Madrid is a 5000 m² building with 21 classrooms for children between 3 and 6 years old. The main objective of the Lycée Français of Madrid and the French Education Agency abroad to achieve the French environmental certificate HQE. From the beginning the project approach is austere and sustainable.
The new children's school is organized through three volumes, two of them, which contains the classrooms, are oriented north-south to optimize natural light. The third volume, which contains all common equipment, however, is oriented east-west to generate two patios for different ages. This volume is protected from the western solder by means of a ceramic lattice skin that sifts the natural light inlet. A scheme of twin classrooms that share a bathroom and a patio is proposed, which also improves the ventilation and lighting of the classrooms.
