The sculpture is also intimately related to the place, inspired by the wild nature of the island and the steep forms of the Basque coast, but without altering the landscape as it is hidden by the walls of the lighthouse. The artist intends to value the environment in which her work is located so that the visitor arrives by boat and travels the paths that cross the island contemplating the rocks and the waves until they reach the lighthouse. Once inside, the visitor will be able to contemplate the sculpture of geological strata fused with the water that flows through them, and that will plunge them into an experience of deep time.
This work is added to the long list of performances in which Cristina Iglesias relates art to ecological defense and the recovery of abandoned buildings or places. Her works propose to generate dialogue and debate about the need to protect the environment we inhabit, providing a renewed conception of the practice of sculpture through the transformation and enhancement of a place by intervening in its artistic language.
