Over the last 40 years, Quito´s Pan-AmericanArchitecture Biennial has achieved a clear ideology that allowed the capture of worldwide actions and proposals that are coherent with regional and local context. Far from being a showcase for Starchitects, our curator committee has done an outstanding selection of actors within architecture and urbanism fitting this edition´s theme.
Now the world´s eye is over Latin-America, after the chilenean architect AlejeandroAravena achieved the 2015 Prtizker´s Prize, followed by his role as curator in the Venice Biennale. As always, the BAQ2016 aims to be the platform for young architects as once ago were Rafael Iglesia, Solano Benitez, Derek Dellekamp and Aravena himself. No doubts that this edition will reveal fresh and emerging figures that will shapearchitecture´s route for the following years.
Maybe because we need to be under the watchful eye to build upon ourselves or maybe because world architecture must increase the spectrum of answers and begin to generate solutions to global problems, before thinking only about the object. The fact is that architecture has great examples of good practice to be exposed to the world and the BAQ with its 40 years of history and worldwide recognition of being a venue for critique, visual exchange and integration of architecture from the American continent, maintains its compromise to expose these examples understanding good practice as the action or initiative capable of improving life quality.
