The photographic exhibition "Coutures" by Joséphine Douet in Madrid's Museo del Traje [Costume Museum] opens today. This exhibition, organized by Museo del Traje in collaboration with Mondo Gallery, combines samples from the permanent collection of the museum with photographs of the hidden section of the fashion world, made by the French artist in the first decade of this century.
Joséphine Douet proposes through this cycle, composed of 25 photographs, a social and aesthetic reflection  that visually connects history and contemporaneity. The comings and goings in the world of fashion allow to discover parallels between the contemporary photographs and the historical costumes of the Museo del Traje, which might at first sight seem unrelated, such as a native Payés costume and a haute couture gown by Givenchy.

As Joséphine Douet claimed: "Haute Couture is the place of the disciplined insanity. Hundreds of hours of work convert a sketch into a real dream, through thousands of pleats, sequins, appliques and as many stitches given strictly by hand, which together create a dress that will only be worn once. Fashion photography in those conditions needs to be a fantasy, also a result of a discipline imposed by the narrowness of the location. You have to tell a story. About fashion, but a story. Each image enlarges the designer's vision and conveys the photographer's eye."

The exhibition will be open until September 18 this year.
