The Barcelona Design Museum takes interest in a genre of photography rarely studied. The exhibition ranges from the time of Modernism, when print journals in high quality paper began to reproduce photographs of models and dresses- to today's digital media: seduction, provocation and glamor.
The starting point for this exhibition is the Museu del Disseny (Design Museum) fashion photography collection, which comprises a total of 464 images of different sizes produced by 35 photographers from 1903 to 2013.
Fashion photography was the main means used to promote fashion in the twentieth century, and can be regarded as just another element in the fashion system. These images are generally commissioned for publication in fashion magazines or for use in media campaigns by fashion brands, designers and companies.
The show will comprise seven sections or areas, each featuring a selection of photographs to illustrate the evolution and changing ways of understanding fashion photography. Distinction will include images by 35 photographers whose works are represented in the collection: Ramon Batlles (Barcelona, 1901-1983), Juanita Biarnés (Madrid, 1935), Camisans, Pere Casas Abarca (Barcelona 1875 - 1958), Compal (actius dècada de 1930), Josep Compté (?- Barcelona 1987), Deri, Juan Gyenes, (1912- Madrid, 1995), Man, Antoni Ollé (Barcelona, 1897 - 1981), Josep Sala (Barcelona, 1896 - 1962), Josep Maria Segarra Plana (Sarrià, 1885-Barcelona, 1959), Samuel Suñé (Barcelona, 1888-1964), Adler & Fresneda (Béla Adler, Barcelona, 1959, Salvador Fresneda), Pep Àvila (Barcelona, 1968), Antoni Bernad (Barcelona, 1944), Biel Capllonch (Mallorca, 1964), Ferran Casanova (Barcelona, 1979), Manel Esclusa (Vic, 1952), Maria Espeus (Suècia, 1949), José Manuel Ferrater (Barcelona, 1948), Enric Galcerán (Barcelona, 1973), Sergi Jasanada (Barcelona, 1967), Virgili Jubero (Barcelona, 1984), Oriol Maspons (Barcelona, 1928 - 2013), Esperanza Moya (Jaén, 1980), Xevi Muntané (Barcelona, 1977), Manuel Outumuro (Orense, 1949), Leopoldo Pomés (Barcelona, 1931), Sergi Pons (Barcelona, 1970), Eugenio Recuenco (Madrid, 1968), Daniel Riera (Olot, 1970), Carles Roig (Badalona, 1961), César Segarra (Barcelona, 1986), Txema Yeste (Barcelona, 1972).
