RCR Arquitectes has presented "ATLAS RCR. An itinerary through eleven works" an exhibition that is presented for the first time in one of the most dynamic and promising galleries on the Madrid scene, the VETA Gallery directed by Fer Francés and located in the Carabanchel neighbourhood.

The exhibition involves the presentation of the renovation project designed by RCR for the VETA Gallery directed by Fer Francés, a space that will have more than 4,000 square meters and that aims to become an architectural benchmark and one of the most important art spaces in Spain.

The exhibition of these works is not generated digitally but will be presented in physical format. And they do not simply intend to represent the architecture in a way that is faithful to reality, but rather reflect how the different RCR projects have been generated.
The exhibition, for eleven outstanding projects from the RCR arquitects studio, takes an intense journey through them with 160 drawings with graphite, gouache and watercolours, some of them in large format, which are not the previous step for their construction (as could be understood with the presentation of plans) and if a journey through the world of ideas that have gestated them.

«If we analyze them carefully we will perceive that they are characterized by their naturalness, their experimental nature and their immediacy. Through each of them, we see how the group analyzes the landscape where architecture should be located, the relationship between the different elements that compose it or the characteristics of each of the spaces.»

The exhibition dedicates a special section to the transformation project of the VETA Gallery, whose works are scheduled for next year with a new building that will have more than 4,000 square meters, designed by the architects Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta, winners of the Pritzker Prize 2017. The start of the intervention is scheduled for 2023.

RCR Arquitectes was founded in 1988 by Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta. Since its inception, it has been an interdisciplinary studio that, with architecture as its starting point, integrates disciplines such as art, design, landscape or thought. The originality of their architecture, deeply respectful of the surrounding landscape, earned them the distinction of the Prizker Prize in 2017, the most prestigious in this discipline.

Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta, work together since 1988 under the name RCR ARQUITECTES in Olot. They are Premio Nacional de Cultura en Arquitectura 2005 by Generalitat de Catalunya, Chevaliers de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by Republique Française in 2008, honorary members by the AIA American Institute of Architecture 2010 and International Award 2011 "Belgian Building Awards". Since 1989 are architects advisors at Parque Natural de la Zona Volcánica de la Garrotxa and have been teachers of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture and Project. They have won different international competitions (the latter, the Waalsekrook media library in Belgium, the Soulages museum in France, Hofheide's crematorium in Belgium and The Edge Bussiness Bay in Dubai). They have received awards in his work among which two finalists positions in the awards of the European Union Mies Van der Rohe. Some of their awarded works have been exhibited in different events and published in several monographs.

RCR has shown the ability to think and transform that bring teamwork and the promotion of cultural initiatives from Bunka Foundation and workshops within the LAB-A in the Espacio Barberí, and have proven that it is possible to do international architecture from a rural environment, which is what has stimulated his imagination.

Following the work of RCR there is a philosophy which works for harmony between humans and nature. The most advanced technologies and materials such as steel or glass, with established rhythms and light that acts in opposition to each, are those that allow RCR this return to the essence of space that is the subject of architecture.
