The 8111 office building by Taller de Arquitectura de Bogotá, located in the Colombian capital, is reminiscent of the International Style housing blocks, as a clean glass volume standing on concrete pillars.

Its mesh structure serves a double purpose, it provides a contemporary look while also protecting the building from seismic activity.
Architects Daniel Bonilla and Marcela Albornoz from Taller de Arquitectura de Bogotá called the building's structure "diagrid" as a combination of the words "diagonal" and "grid".

From the first floor upward, the mesh densifies and the structure is enclosed in a curtain wall, creating an clear exterior volume while still highlighting the mesh structure.

Description of project by Taller de Arquitectura de Bogotá

As a response to the limitations that imposes the Colombian Seismic Code, the project resolved the structure through the “diagrid” system (diagonal-grid). This diagrid represented a greater efficiency in the transmission of the loads and forces to become the façade of the building.

The composition through this big structural mesh of concrete allows the reduction of material. It also permits for the possibility to formulate different sections in the composition of the diagonals of the building. In the first floor we proposed a double height that allows for the best visual exposition upon arrival to the building. The mesh is denser on the second floor. The final gesture was to give a lighter glass façade that gives absolute presence to the diagrid.
