The Ascer Ceramic Awards are awards sponsored by Endesa and the Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia that celebrate their XXII edition this year, organized in the city of Castellón, Valencia, Spain, and also have the support of the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Administration Public of the Generalitat Valenciana within the framework of the agreement signed with ASCER.

The purpose of the Ceramic Awards is to disseminate the use of Spanish ceramics in works of architecture and interior design (both within Spanish territory and outside our borders). The Cerámica Awards have a solid track record and are highly recognized among professionals in the field of architecture.

The first prize, unanimously by the jury in the XXII edition of the Ascer Cerámica Awards, is the project “Casa en Puntiró (Mallorca)” by the architecture studio Ripoll Tizón.

The jury has valued the characteristics of how the materials and the architectural resolution are assembled coherently in the project. The materiality, structure, and architectural solution are very balanced and it is notable that it has been worked on at the same time and from the origin. They highlight the skill of the authors in the selection of materials and construction details.

The interior design award was received by the “Casa Isabel la Católica” project. Drawing José Mª García de Paredes» by Agustín Gor Gómez (GRX Arquitectos).

From the project, the jury highlights that with the use of a timeless and standard 10x10cm piece, an entire housing program is articulated, adapting to the plasticity of the house. The same material generates movement and has the versatility to adapt to all types of surfaces, even curves. In addition, the careful work in choosing the color range of the entire project is highlighted.

The “Casa Nube” project by Studio Animal, has received the mention of interior design, where the jury has assessed that faced with the usual problem of renovating a small or medium-sized, highly compartmentalized home, the proposed solution is to organize, the one hand, the space that houses all public uses, on the other the private area and between both, a tablet, with a formal and material condition that, like a cloud, contains all the wet spaces and acts as a filter between the private spaces and the common areas of the house.

The finalist projects selected by the jury in the architecture branch have been, "Plaza + bus stop in Vinarós" por La Errería  (Luis Navarro Jover + Carlos Sánchez García), "Renovation and expansion of the Buenavista Cultural Center » by Padilla Nicás Arquitectos + Mariluz Sánchez, «María Zambrano Early Childhood Education Center» by Magén Arquitectos and «Transformation of an abandoned building into 27 apartments» by NUA architectures (Arnau Tiñena Ramos, Ferrán Tiñena Guiamet, María Rius Ruiz).

The finalist projects selected by the jury in the interior design branch were “Casa Cabanyal” by Viruta Lab and “Urban Cabinet Series (2): The expanded columns” by Beatriz Arroyo and Lys Villalba.

Last week the ASCER headquarters hosted the jury meeting for the XXII Ceramic Awards for Architecture and Interior Design. The jury has been chaired by the renowned architect Carme Pinós, and has served as members: the architect Jesús Olivares (COR Asociados Arquitectos), the designer Inma Bermúdez, the director of Diariodesign, Gracia Cardona and the architect and president of the College of Architects of Castellón , Susana Babiloni.

GRX Arquitectos understands architecture as the link between the landscape and its inhabitants. This alliance is multiple, complex and defines the society that builds it by crystallizing political, economic and social structures. Architecture explains to us throughout history how the societies have been that have built them. In GRX Arquitectos we think that architecture can transform the society in which it is inserted by being an active agent in the construction of new realities.

GRX is a young architecture studio and is therefore experiencing its own method of addressing the ideation and development of projects. They understand that architecture is a process where a multitude of agents in different phases are mobilized for the realization of a common objective in which the architect becomes a catalytic agent of all the parties involved for the development of each project. In that context, the idea of authorship and individuality are relegated to a secondary level and collaborative work and multidisciplinarity become a priority element in the process.

This quality of the way in which they understand architecture leads them to create GRX Architects Project Manager, with which in GRX we decided to increase the involvement in the construction of our projects by favoring the collective dynamics involved in the construction of architecture, promoting collaboration with artisans, artists and crafts with which we consider fundamental to work horizontally. Therefore GRX in an elastic community of professionals that adapts in team, form and process to each project.
