Architecture studio External Reference, led by Carmelo Zappulla, collaborates again with VICIO to design the company's first physical restaurant, founded by chef Aleix Puig and entrepreneur Oriol de Pablo, on Almagro Street, in Madrid.

The company was previously focused on food delivery. Now with this project, they intend to enter the world of dine-in. The project becomes the starting signal for the 12 new restaurants that will open in 2024 throughout the country.
The new VICIO restaurant designed by External Reference in Madrid, is inspired by the idea of representing the nocturnal, urban, and industrial atmosphere of large metropolises. To respond to this idea, a landscape has been created with windows, shop windows, games of heights, and neon lights, which together draw an atmosphere that winks at Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window."

The exterior mixes with the interior, the interior walls become facades simulating different buildings through which clients wander and making the interior windows become shop windows. The route is characterized by scenery with optical effects thanks to infinity mirrors and red neon lighting that, together with the large "V" on the sign, evoke the city of VICIO.

At the entrance, the first thing the client sees is a double-height space where the view of the kitchen is the protagonist, unfolding a long continuous sofa around it so that clients can take a seat and enjoy the famous "Vicio experience." Furthermore, on this floor, a contrast is created between physical elements and digital projections, transformed by a facade of LED screens.

The upper floor, however, is characterized by backlit windows and a balcony with smoked black glass railing that opens views to the lower level. The walls of the staircase that connects both floors are a reinterpretation of a classic brick wall, where the boxes for the Vicio delivery service are transformed into the construction elements that shape the space. The staircase serves as a metaphor that symbolizes the company as a large building that grows "brick by brick."

The mix of a project of External Reference experiences and the transgressive and provocative values of VICIO have resulted in an innovative and at the same time balanced architectural interior, which mixes the forcefulness and industrial character of the materials with the care of high craftsmanship. of custom pieces.
