Metalocus uncovers the illustrator Vesa Metalocus Sammalisto, a fetish of maps, transports, buildings and everything that may appear in them. You might not missed part of his work, great illustrations that are sight readers could not miss!

Today I wanted to make known the works of Vesa Sammalisto. I advise you to spend your time and look over on some of his best artwork and judge yourselves.

"I´m a Finnish illustrator. I recently moved back to Helsinki. For a while I lived in Berlin, loved the city but still felt Helsinki was more home to me. Helsinki has an international atmosphere yet being more like a village rather than a metropolis. Loads of interesting things are also happening here at the moment. I really find Helsinki an inspiring place.

I graduated in graphic design, worked as a designer in an agency for a while before making the decision to spread my wings and go on my own. I was running too many projects on evenings and weekends so I had to face the reality to wheather continue my safe daily job or start building my personal career. So I left. Haven´t regretted the decision. I´m a hard worker, humble as well, and that is for sure paying off.

I´ve been lucky enough to work for bunch of great clients like Twitter, Monocle, Wired and Google. In 2011 I was honoured with the highly appreciated ADC Young Guns award. I would say that has been a highlight of my career. Early 2012 I joined in London-based Synergy who represents me wordwide and ever since I´ve been very busy working on interesting projects.

I love to be influenced by the past decades. I´m not trying to imitate them but more finding my inspiration from the imagery of them. I love the warmth and the craftmanship of them. Them not being too sleeky unlike many images today fascinates me. All that say is I still want to make illustrations that represent today. I love maps. I love details. Sometimes I dig in too deep. I think my background in architecture studies shows in my complex and structured illos as well. I like to vary my style slightly to be able to serve great variety of clients. I think it is important to create your own unique language yet again stay open minded."
