Coinciding with the publication of the fourth volume of the AA_Art and Architecture MUSAC Collection, a specific facility designed by TYIN Tegnestue for the Showcase Project of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla y Leon.

The MUSAC Showcase Project will host until February 7 an installation specifically designed by the Norwegian architectural TYIN Tegnestue formed by Andreas G. Gjertsen and Yashar Hanstad. The two young architects have traveled the world reaching conflict areas on the border between Thailand and Burma, the favelas of Bangkok or the jungles of Sumatra. After several years working outside the confines of conventional architecture have returned to his native Norway where they will have to put into practice what they have learned until now.

The aim of this small exhibition is to show some relevant projects TYIN in Southeast Asia and more recent in Norway. Through these projects we can see the four fundamental values of their practice: the material, detail, structure and the human factor. These concepts are embodied in handicrafts, recycling, experimentation with new materials and a more practical and logical simplicity, presented in the Showcase Project of MUSAC where experimentation carried out with simple materials during their experience as architects has been compiled to create a collage of vertical stripes on the wall. Through some windows in this wall we can find models, sketches, photographs and drawings of the selected projects creating a space that recalls the aesthetic of the "Old Market Library" realized in Bangkok in 2009.

The fourth edition of the series MUSAC AA_Art and Architecture, dedicated to the Norwegian study, collects essays by five professionals from the world of art and architecture to try to deepen on a new way of doing architecture, based on fundamental values related to the architectural craftsmanship, aesthetics, sustainability and social responsibility.

More information

TYIN tegnestue Architects was established in 2008 based in the Norwegian city of Trondheim. The studio is currently run by Andreas G. Gjertsen and Yashar Hanstad, and has built projects in poor and underdeveloped areas of Thailand, Burma, Haiti, Uganda, Sumatra and their native Norway. Solutions to fundamental challenges call for an architecture where everything serves a purpose, an architecture that follows necessity.

Among their architectural projects are the Molofunksjonell (Norway 2015-2016), TRD Hienemann (Norway 2013-2014), Lyset paa Lista (Norway 2013), Cassia Coop Training Centre (Indonesia 2011), Naust paa Aure (Norway 2010), Old Market Library (Thailand 2009), Safe Haven Bathhouse and Library (Thailand 2009), and the Soe Ker Tie House (Thailand 2008- 2009).

By involving the local populace actively in both the design and building of their projects, TYIN are able to establish a framework for mutual exchange of knowledge and skills. All materials used in TYIN´s projects are collected close to the sites or purchased from local merchants.

TYIN has won several international awards and their projects have been published and exhibited worldwide. Currently, they are conducting practice-based educational activities as Assistant Professors at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim and giving lectures, curating exhibitions and holding workshops throughout the world.
