TYIN Tegnestue Architects
TYIN tegnestue Architects was established in 2008 based in the Norwegian city of Trondheim. The studio is currently run by Andreas G. Gjertsen and Yashar Hanstad, and has built projects in poor and underdeveloped areas of Thailand, Burma, Haiti, Uganda, Sumatra and their native Norway. Solutions to fundamental challenges call for an architecture where everything serves a purpose, an architecture that follows necessity.
Among their architectural projects are the Molofunksjonell (Norway 2015-2016), TRD Hienemann (Norway 2013-2014), Lyset paa Lista (Norway 2013), Cassia Coop Training Centre (Indonesia 2011), Naust paa Aure (Norway 2010), Old Market Library (Thailand 2009), Safe Haven Bathhouse and Library (Thailand 2009), and the Soe Ker Tie House (Thailand 2008- 2009).
By involving the local populace actively in both the design and building of their projects, TYIN are able to establish a framework for mutual exchange of knowledge and skills. All materials used in TYIN´s projects are collected close to the sites or purchased from local merchants.
TYIN has won several international awards and their projects have been published and exhibited worldwide. Currently, they are conducting practice-based educational activities as Assistant Professors at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim and giving lectures, curating exhibitions and holding workshops throughout the world.
