Processing was the software to create tools that render the heatmaps, but while the logical structure of program is fairly simple, there are significant challenges in working with large datasets.
A visualisation of the spatial clustering of death by impact in the videogame, Just Cause 2. The video is made up of over 11.3 million player death events, specifically, death by impact with terrain or objects. Sometimes visualizing everything can turn out beautiful results. It seems to work especially well when the data is geographic. It turns out the everything method works for fictional worlds, too.
