Enero Arquitectura designs the new hospital of QuirónSalud in Córdoba compacting its program and ordering it into two large volumes. On the one hand, the technical block and the hospitalization, larger in height and on the ground, and on the other, the ambulatory program, which is more content at the scale level.

The accesses take place in the point of union between the two bodies, on the one hand the main entrance and on the other the one of urgencies. The external latticework is deployed covering both accesses with a marquee.
The new hospital of Enero Arquitectura is coated with a complex double skin. A lattice of perforated triangular pieces first sifts the sunlight. Behind the second envelope closes the building. The combination of both layers achieves an energy-efficient facade with a dynamic and vibrant image.

Description of project by Enero Arquitectura

Quirón Salud ordered at the end of 2014 the design of the NEW HOSPITAL QUIRÓNSALUD CÓRDOBA, responding to a program of spaces and express technical and functional requirements that show the evolution of the sector in terms of demand for services, according to demographic characteristics, socioeconomic patterns and management formulas that operate and contribute to the reflection of new health standards framed in the location where the infrastructure will be developed.

The proposal seeks to provide spatial quality to the different areas that complete the complex functional program, taking as a basic premise the search for natural light, a design of the spaces friendly, both for the patient and for the rest of users and an energetic behavior optimal in accordance with its location; all this, keeping in mind the human scale on a contemporary and attractive architecture, as well as an implantation sensitive to the existence of archaeological remains on the site.

The free spaces of the plot have been ordered in conjunction with the building, paying special attention to landscaped areas and / or shade, mainly pedestrian, in visual and functional continuity with the urbanization system in interior courtyards, in addition to dealing with access to the new conformation favoring accessibility to the different sectors.

The design of the building is based on two unquestionable premises, regardless of the resolution of the program inherent to a building of these characteristics:

The first premise is the preexistence of foreseeable archaeological remains in the plot, both of a built sector of the Islamic period in its southwestern part, sector that should be avoided by what on the same and previous sealed parking surface is scheduled, as of a necropolis of a similar era; On this necropolis, once the underlying remains have been exhumed and documented, action can be taken, which is why this is the area chosen to develop the bulk of the intervention.

The second premise starts from the existence of a previous project, as a result of which a regulatory archaeological study was carried out, and whose footprint it is not convenient to transfer to avoid slowing down the start of the works.

The hospital is ordered by two large volumes that respond to the two large programmatic packages that houses a set of these characteristics, on the one hand the technical block and hospitalization, larger in size and height and on the other the outpatient program , more content at the scale level. These two volumes are arranged according to two different alignments, the first maintains the alignments of the primitive trace, pairing with the east boundary of the farm and the second is rotated on the first marking the alignment that offers the boundary beyond which are available the foreseeable archaeological remains of the Islamic core.

The rotation of the two volumes described generates the two main entrances of the building, on the front and facing south, the main entrance and on the back and facing north, the entrance to the emergency room. At the urbanization level, the building maintains public access, which offers access to both the Health Center and the outdoor and underground parking, supplies and goods individualize their access to the generals with a direct entry from the Avenue of the Airport. Individualized also resolves emergency access, with its own differentiated circuit.

The two defined pieces are developed in a very similar way, in both cases a central courtyard perforates the main volume so that around it and in the manner of a cloister the main functions are available, consultations on one level in the case of the piece ambulatory on a ground floor that resolves access, admission, direction, teaching and administration and hospitalization rooms in the main volume resolved in two floors as the first levels (zócalo) develop the functions of the technical block (emergencies, diagnosis, operating rooms...).

The two pieces incorporate servant spaces (receptions, toilets, warehouses, ...) as well as vertical communication cores (stairs, elevators...) so that they could almost function independently.

In the basement 1 all the functions related to general services and assistance support (kitchen, storage...) are arranged under the contour of the main volume and the underground parking under the ambulatory volume.

The internal circulations are considered completely separate so that there is always a side of public circulation and a side of internal circulation that never mix and that are connected as a comb all the functions of a hospital.

Formally the set is developed with a double skin that allows to take maximum advantage of the climatic conditions of the area, the skin that separates us from the interior or first skin is resolved based on prefabricated pieces like a sandwich panel or glass as a thermal enclosure. These pieces are fixed to the forged edges and to the vertical uprights arranged for this purpose. The exterior finish or second skin is a metal lattice designed based on the abstraction of an Islamic motif, which depending on its orientation and sunlight, is parameterized to filter more or less sunlight.

The Hospital completed in June 2018, not only solves its program in the best way possible, but also seeks to extract from the environment the particularities that help, on the one hand to singling out the proposal and on the other, to root it in the place it serves.
