On September 26 the Museum of La Neomudéjar inaugurated a new space in Madrid: the 13 of Sappers, which will host the permanent collection of the Museum and its temporary exhibitions, studios for artists and also spaces for associations and galleries, among which is the group Interrogatory Space [?]
The Museum of La Neomudéjar is a Center of Arts, experimentation and creativity, focused mainly on rescuing spaces in disuse to manage them with cultural uses of quality. This is how the transformation of the old Fuencarral Barracks into El 13 de Zapadores was born, a space dedicated to art and a new home for associations and galleries.

Description of project by Espacio Interrogante [?]

The proposal is configured as a first aesthetic action within our project as 'space?', To generate a reflection on our presence in Sappers and the relationship with it. What we are producing and how, as architects, we serve the contemporary artistic moment.

This first installation speaks of our positioning against the fact of settling in this place; the new headquarters of La Neomudéjar colonizes some old quarters of 200 linear meters of façade that remained abandoned and we, together with the other artists, appear before finishing the refurbishment of the building.

How do we settle in a place like that?

First of all we have to look towards the architecture of the place; a spatiality still wild and absolutely massive and deteriorated by disuse. One way to restore life to space and appropriate it is to domesticate it.

How do we domesticate it?
What opportunities does a process like this offer us?

At a time when immediacy is a necessary value, we have forgotten what processes are: for this reason, a project like Sappers allows us to create bonds and generate emotions.

-"Come play with me," the Little Prince proposed, "I'm so sad!"
-"I can not play with you," the fox said, "I'm not tamed.
[...]
- What does "domesticate" mean? the Little Prince asked again.
"It's a forgotten thing," said the fox, "it means" to create bonds ... "
- Create links?
"Actually, you'll see," said the fox. You for me are still no more than a child equal to another hundred thousand children. And I do not need you. You do not need me either. I am not for you more than a fox among another hundred thousand foxes. But if you tame me, then we will need each other. You will be for me unique in the world, I will be for you unique in the world ... "
[...]
- Please ... tame me! Said the fox.
-"I would love it," replied the Little Prince, "but I do not have much time. I have to discover friends and know many other things.
-"Only the things that are tamed are known," said the fox. Men no longer have time to know anything. They buy everything done in stores. But since stores do not sell friends, men no longer have friends. If you want a friend, tame me!

The Little Prince of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The installation 'domesticar' proposes a series of domestic spaces capable of generating intimate and comfort situations, in an environment still under construction. The ephemeral enclosures, of painter's plastic of different opacities in function of the privacies, also play with the fluidity and the fragility, to blur the situations of the interiors and to increase the contrasts.

'Domesticate', like our project, will continue to mutate in parallel with the research.

Espacio '?' [Interrogante] is a place of production born to face a generational uncertainty caused by the lack of opportunities in an endogamic and immobile cultural panorama.

We stand on the margins, both in the city and in theory; those spaces that still need research and discovery of new concepts, and for that reason we work with the urban environment, the political power of the citizens, the ways of communicating and the new languages.

Here we find several compañeras who, although we have trained as architects, each one has developed a professional profile around other transversal disciplines, such as design, publishing, film or communication. space '?' allows us to promote those concerns and personal projects, as well as enrich them through synergies and collaborations, becoming a network that crosses different artistic fields.

In the beginning, space '?' Is Lucas Alcaide [@ lucas.adw], Marina Rivero [@catacresis], Adrián de Miguel [@demiguelsimon], Elena Gallego [@helenagedeuve], Ester Llamazares [@esterillama] and Rebeca Hernández [ @ rebeca.hd], all former students of Architecture of the UAH.
