The festival broadens its focus of interest, introducing new spaces in each edition that seek to investigate new typologies and that respond to changing urban environments. In Concentrico 05 the memory of industrial architecture is incorporated, with the chimeney of the old Tabacalera, the Ebro river and its linear park that structures the northern part of the city, the heritage and its interpretation in a new patio under the tower of the Church of San Bartolomé, and several parking spaces of El Espolón, always in debate in the current context.

The projects presented by the different studies for this edition of Concentrico 05 , are the following:
WINNING PROJECT
Viaje alrededor del Castaño, by Gadea Burgaz - Pablo Losa Fontangordo
”Viaje alrededor del castaño” is a dry assemblage of wooden elements designed to emphasize the blossoming of the chestnut.
The project is an open air pavilion covered by sections in various parts. You can enter through 15 different doors, having a view through 13 windows, all centered around a tree, providing a cheery meeting place to sit a socialize.
The pavilion itself is in the shape of a C built with 13 structural frames that unfold radially around the centerpiece tree. Each frame is generated from two 50 mm boards that undergo a series of transformations to form a door-window-roof assembly. The pattern of the cuts in the boards changes slightly, creating an inversely proportional progression between the window and door gaps and the height of the roof. The windows form a wall with seats around the tree, while the open doors give access to the semi-covered gallery. The more rigid 30 mm poplar plywood boards will form the joints that articulate the thicker and larger pieces.
As for the colors, only one side of the 50 mm panels will be painted green. By having face A of wood color and face B of green color, a chromatic game is produced that depicts the rotation of the cut pieces. The window panels are painted pale turquoise green, while the panels of the doors are blue-green.
During springtime in the ”Plaza de las Escuelas Trevijano”, the greens, the wood and the movement of the pieces produce a continous elevation crowned by the pink chestnut flowers.
The Sail at the Ebro, in Parque del Ebro, by ENSA Normandie
An ephemeral fabric structure held by tension on some wooden masts, within which we propose various uses and activities, we complement the usual activities of the park.
Stairway to heaven, in Viña Lanciano - Bodegas LAN, by Juan Llamazares Argüelles
The proposal invites us to contemplate reality with a new point of view. The installation consists of the creation of an element in height that places the viewer’s point of view above.
All is ok; we are designing, in ESDIR Gardens, by Escuela Superior de Diseño de La Rioja
The Esdir with this intervention wants citizens to visualize the work of the design students that are formed in it, a mixture of optimism and irony.
Taburete Tower, in Casa Farias - Caritas, by SZCZ Jakub Szczesny
After the festival, this vertical accent will be dismantled into a number of heavy duty stools that people who will happen to be present during the finissage will receive and take home.
Tea, Chocolate & Coffee, in Biblioteca de La Rioja, by knitknot architecture
This intervention proposes re-imagining your patio as a Corral de Comedias to transmit and interpret these stories from a series of architectural spaces that invite storytelling.
Las columnas misteriosas, in Plaza de Santa Ana, by EBBA architects
As a simple gesture, the columns can be reorganised to create new spatial configurations, and at night they can transform into light beacons to give the square a new life.
The Tower, in Iglesia de San Bartolomé Patio, by Archwerk
An ephemeral construction as a connection between the secular world and the spiritual one. The material is maximized to create the highest possible structure.
Living Cloister, in Palacio Cloister, by Parasite 2.0
The work, made of the seven indistinct beings, wants to be a gravestone of what we forgot, or the incipit of what we haven’t discovered yet. They are their own symbol.
Passage, in Chimenea de la Tabacalera, by Alfredo Baladrón
The performance aims to change the character of passage of this “passage” in a stationary space where to stand, sit and look, putting the value of the memory of the place.
Underground, in Calado de San Gregorio, by Lucas Muñoz
A sound installation that invites the visitor to imagine a moment of what could have been witness, the birth of an urban culture, the skate culture.
La hoja, in Plaza de San Bartolomé, by FAHR 021.3
La hoja is intended to be a piece that people can use spontaneously, without associated rules or codes. A leaf that is a democratic stage of appropriation.
Nolla, in Colegio de Arquitectos Patio, by Robin Falck
A small summer cottage concept challenging the current norm. Small, leaving the smallest possible footprint. No permanent concrete base.
The Wooden Deck, in Parking El Espolón, by Benedetto Bufalino
A wooden terrace built directly on 3 vehicles on the street. In this atypical terrace, passers-by will be able to sit down, discuss, debate and imagine a new world…
Signals 1.0, a Performance at Departure from Pavilion, by Tools for Action
Signals invites everyone to take part in a collective experiment, to use the act of walking to experience the city and to revisit its memories. Places do not disappear, they reappear through our memories.
3×3, in Plaza del Revellín, by Vaumm
The piece is closed, compact and rigorous in its form but on the contrary it is porous and transparent. It plays with the perception of the one that explores it.
