The traditional paper roll warehouses that filled Christiansholm area will be accompanied by new buildings and uses, strengthening the informal public activity by the waterfront: an event hall, a swimming hall, etc. However, the winning proposal of COBE is not limited to the public side of the neighbourhood, but it will also include housing areas and green spaces, to avoid turning the area into a space reserved for tourists and unconnected to the rest of the city. Thus, the combination of public and private uses ensures that the outcome of the district allows the maximum enjoyment of the area by both locals and visitors.
COBE has won first prize in the Paper Island competition, which aims to develop the inner port area of the Denmark's capital city. Since this centric district, named Christiansholm, houses some of the most iconic buildings in Copenhagen - as, for example The Royal Danish Opera House and the Royal Danish Playhouse theater -, it is no wonder that the area has become a major focus of urban activity. COBE's intervention in the zone will provide new venues for both locals and tourists, and will stimulate the vibration of this portuary neighbourhood.
