The vision goes beyond the house, the walls are made of glass. The parallel solid walls don't interrupt the vision. The living room is in the center, the rooms at the ends. The center of the house is a terrace when open. Brazilian homes all have a terrace as the most important place for socializing, in this case it is already one. The roof, designed 1.5 m beyond the glass walls protects the main facades. What brings intimacy to that glass house is the immersion in nature. The light ray imprints on the parallel walls as the day goes on.
Single family house and atelier for the artist Lara Rios.
This project hybridizes two typologies: the modern house and the industrial shed with north light from above. The program specificity, with 4 autonomous but interrelated units - house, guest apartment, atelier and garage- together with the slope from the terrain design the frame where we integrated both types into a single volume.
CABANAS NO RIO by Aires Mateus.
The project is a rural refuge that allows its inhabitants to spend some time by the river, and so it has two minimum spaces: a living and cooking area and a sleeping room with a toilet. These functions interact with the slope of the roofs, a shape that responds to the archetype of a house.
Residence in Sikamino by Tense Architecture Network
A tense, two-fold merge of the residence with its surrounding field is attempted: via a partial immersing into the ground and a simultaneous covering by the elongated, earthy roof. The sustainability of the project is mainly attained by passive means and is focused into this double gesture. The reception of the residence’s edges by the land of Attica and the subsequent birth of the green roof by the same land, create an acute shell, gently inserted in the olive groove.
The final arrangement of the MO House plan opened two technical issues that put the solution into question: the high variety of angles in the joints between pieces and a penalized shape factor that would result in a negative impact on the energetic performance of the house (an elevated façade-volume ratio). In addition to that, another key issue aroused: proximity of trees required a little aggressive foundation system.
Lluís and Eulàlia's Home by TEd’A arquitectes.
The architects Irene Pérez and Jaume Mayol have created a curious and interesting house based on a "simple" pre-existing stone enclosure, it has been handled and molded it until obtain a square space which is connected with outside, sorry, the outside belongs to the project defined and domesticated until fuse together. The essence of the project lies in that the inhabitant is protected by his house, either an interior or exterior space.
El Espinar House is built in a small village at the north face of the Sierra de Madrid. The site enjoys a privileged location, on the edge of the town bordering the Natural Park Panera. This situation is the starting point of the project, with the goals of maximizing the mountain and park views to the northwest; optimizing natural light considering it is at the north face of the mountain, and respecting the existing large pines. The dwelling is located in the center of the lot with a perimeter defined by urban legal conditions as well as the situation of the trees.
Photographing the T-House was spiritual, one of the strongest architectural experiences ever. We started taking pictures as soon as the foundations were in the ground, and we documented the assembly and erection process and of course the finished house. CorTen steel was used for the outer surfaces and it turned from bright orange to a very elegant dark color, almost black with a hint of bordeaux red.
The place is of profound tranquility where after a day of rain and fog an intense light reflects in the stilled mirror of the majestic Hudson River´s deep waters. A place where twilights are a thousand colors as the water breaks into a thousand reflections. A place where the air is clean and calm, and mild. One could say a place that is very close to heaven.
Sítio da Lezíria by Atelier DATA.
The site is located in Alcácer do Sal, Aletejo, a region truly strategic in the country of Portugal because of its geographical, enviroment and landscape features.
In this area, Sado river was one of the main factors of growth due to its navigability. The extensive areas for the production of salt represented equally a strong economical development of the region, combined with the existing rich soil, which promoted agriculture. Agriculture is still the dominant activity of the region.
V House. Restoration and extension of La Rabadeira.
Casa V is the restoration, adaptation and extension of an existing house, designed and built in the early 1960’s. The family that owns the house has been spending their holidays in it for almost fifty years. In that time, even though the number of family members has increased, the house had remained the same, being now unable to fulfill current and future needs. The intentions of the project were to create a place where three generations of the same family could enjoy their holidays simultaneously.
