French architect Jean Nouvel, who showed his discontent last week after refusing to attend the opening of his Philharmonie de Paris, has designed the "Artists' Garden" around a museum that will host exhibitions from the National Art Museum of China (last year was launched other museum in Beijing by JNA). This rich program wants to reflect the major importance of culture and art in the development of China. Three years of dialog between Jean Nouvel (JNA) and Shandong (Shandong International Coastal Cultural Industry Co. Ltd) allowed putting the finishing touches to this project.
"The Artists’ Garden is a unique biotope which aims to promote a dialog between architecture and art. It should soon become a new goal of visit for art lovers" said a statement from the Ateliers Jean Nouvel.
Rather than grouping the buildings together in the centre of project, the buildings will be strung along a covered promenade that weaves through new gardens and woods, running along the coastline towards a new marina.
Visualisations also show an small lake with a tower with open shutters. Near, a linear structure designed as walkway, will feature a graffitied ceiling raised on concrete supports. This structure is designed as link between the artists' studios and access the hotel rooms, restaurants and shops, as well as the museum. A group of artists' studios will be aligned on top of the roof, with views of the sea from new forest. The master plan proposes, also, additional studios on the roof of car park buildings that mark the eastern boundary.
At the north end of the project, an existing harbour will increase its size by the addition of pontoons, allowing increase the visitors boats. The harbour mouth has a cluster of small shopping buildings.
