IVAN HARBOUR, Rogers, Stirk Harbour + Partners
Ivan joined the practice in 1985. He cut his teeth on Lloyd's of London and subsequently led the design of the European Court of Human Rights and Bordeaux Law Courts. He was made a director in 1993, a senior director in 1998 and a senior partner in 2011. In 2007 the name of the practice was changed from Richard Rogers Partnership in recognition of Ivan and Graham Stirk's contribution. Together with Richard, they are evolving the design-led practice for the future.
Ivan has considerable experience of directing complex projects both large and small and of many different types. Each is a unique response born out of a pursuit of the best and a thorough questioning of design proposals based on a language of: context, public realm, legibility, flexibility, sustainability and teamwork.
Projects designed and realised under Ivan's supervision include: Maggie's Centre at Charing Cross Hospital, London, winner of the 2009 Stirling Prize; 300 New Jersey Avenue offices, Washington DC; Oxley Woods, sustainable and affordable housing in Milton Keynes, UK; Terminal 4 Barajas Airport Madrid, winner of the 2006 Stirling Prize; National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff, Wales; Law Courts in Antwerp and Bordeaux; and Minami Yamashiro School, Kyoto, Japan. Significantly, these projects have all been recognised by either national, European or international awards.
He is currently working on a 22 hectares masterplan for Barangaroo, Sydney and a number of buildings within this to create a complete new city quarter by 2020.
