A couple of months ago, we present you in METALOCUS the 20 shortlisted projects for the Aga Kahn for Architecture 2013. Among them there were projects located in Afghanistan, Austria, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Thailand and Yeme.
After a process in which several architect, urban planners and engineers have evaluated the quality and the architectural excelence of the 20 shortlisted projects during the last months, the last 6th of September the prize was awarded at the Castle of Sao Jorge in Lisbon by Aníbal Cavaco Silva, President of the Portuguese Republic and His Highness the Aga Kahn.
The awarded projects are:
Islamic Cemetery, Altach, Austria
Rehabilitation of Tabriz Bazaar, Tabriz, Iran
Hassan II Bridge, Rabat, Morocco
Revitalisation of Birzeit Historic Centre, Birzeit, Palestine
Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery, Khartoum, Sudan
Among the jury we can find personalities as David Adjaye, Dr. Howayda Al-Harithy, Michel Desvigne, Mahmood Mamdani, Kamil Merican, Toshiko Mori, Wang Shu, Shahzia Sikander and Murat Tabanlioglu.
