The architectural project of the Pavilion, carried out by Amann-Cánovas-Maruri (Extremas Temperatures Architects), has finally managed to surprise and find its own identity (far from a first visual coincidence with the Austrian pavilion), standing out for the iconic forcefulness of its image and for a surprising and interesting interior.
The Pavilion has an area of about 5,800 m², giving prominence to a large square covered by a series of conical volumes, characterized by the atavistic memory of their colors to convey the character of Mediterranean culture and to link the theme of sustainability to a message of optimism. Part of its cladding has ultralight and flexible photovoltaic panels designed by the Spanish company The South Oracle (TSO).
The project is made up of three different areas:
- The Atrium: which connects the square with the underground floor through a ramp, and houses a large artistic installation.
- The underground floor: which houses the Theater and the exhibition gallery. A surprising space with a certain structural display
An interior that has been joined by exceptional contributions of content developed and proposed by External Reference and Onionlab.
The contents include: The contribution of the always interesting Studio Daniel Canogar presenting in the Atrium on the way to the Theater, one of his most ambitious projects to date: Dinamo, an audiovisual work designed specifically for the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020, and made in collaboration with the composer Francisco López.
Nacho Vigalondo's Luna de Agosto performs at the Theater. A surprising film, Spain's business card to the visitors of the Dubai Expo 2020 that shows us as a vitalistic and dynamic country, overflowing with talent and creativity, and committed to a sustainable and inclusive future.
The contents are much broader, taking tours that range from 30 minutes to two hours, including sustainability topics, chess teaching and competition, topics about technology and our cultural relationship with the Arab world.
