Australian made stackable stool with a powder-coated metal tube frame and square metal grid mesh wrap over seat.
Making reference to Glenn Murcutt’s pavilion design and materiality, with a steel fabricated structure and mesh fabric skin, the ‘MP Stool’ is influenced by the subtle curvature of the roof canopy.
The flat oval tube of the frame, another reference to the soft form of Glenn Murcutt’s design, provides an organic tactility to the stool frame.
Perforated steel, stretched over the outer legs of the stool frame and rolled along the front to meet the mid rails, is an expanded version of the curved fabric cladding the roof structure.
Originally proposed to use a similar woven fabric to the pavilion canopy, through prototyping and manufacturing analysis, perforated steel mesh was selected as an alternative. While still referencing the woven grid mesh fabric, simplifying fabrication to one manufacturer producing frame and seat minimised room for error while maximising quality and efficiency.
‘Primer red’ colour is raw and often used as a base coat on steel. Its depth of colour and richness is symbolic of our country’s red earth.
MP Stool is an object to provide seating and as an accessory to the M Pavilion, to not take centre stage.
