In this edition of the BIAU they presented a total of 997 projects. After a penultimate selection of 32 works, 17 works in different categories have finally been awarded and 2 special prizes have been awarded.

The selected works respond to a criterion that puts the attention on the occupants and users of the architecture.

The predominant typology among the awarded works is that of collective equipment, among which are administrative centers, cultural, recreational or educational centers. They have also been awarded, both homes and rehabilitations. All of them cover a wide architectural panorama in different countries ranging from Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay.

According to the jury: “Two fantastic works by two architects who have been demonstrating the great quality of their work throughout their professional career. Sesc 24 de Maio is an example of rehabilitation, of generation of spaces, of creating a place to welcome, a place full of life where each use has found its perfect “hole” in the building. The Climate Museum in Lleida is also an example of creating public space, loaded with poetics, and with a careful use of materials.”

“Both architects have been a solid reference for Ibero-American architecture over the years from its strong marginal and peripheral condition. His figures have remained hidden and away from the media circuits but their architectures have managed to multiply their interest over the years until being at the center of contemporary discourse.”
