With "The X of TXP", Todo Por La Praxis (TXP) narrates a journey of ten years since its founding through ten projects that show different scales in addition to developing a Manifesto in which they are defined in ten points.
Description of project by Todo Por La Praxis (TXP)
The multidisciplinary group TODO X LA PRAXIS (TXP) celebrates ten years of activity in which it has worked on the development of almost a hundred urban innovation projects and initiatives, both nationally and internationally.
In this decade of life, the TXP collective has carried out an intense activity, linked to a multitude of processes and citizen initiatives. The collective has been mutating both in agents and in structure, going through different organizational and legal formats. During these years around 30 active members have passed through the collective, and in turn we have a network of external collaborators who have made this project possible.
During this time, 96 projects have been developed and almost all of them have been executed. An average of 20 employees have participated in each process and in some cases they have increased to 500. We can count around 2,000 doers and collaborators who have participated in the different processes. For us it is important to highlight this collective authorship that goes beyond recognition to transcend, as the communities are partners and co-creators of the processes.
In this tour we have agreed, collaborated and built affective networks with 29 institutions, 43 grassroots organizations and social movements/neighborhood associations. We have also collaborated with different groups and have had the privilege of sharing different processes in 15 countries.
It has been possible to open different channels and tools to facilitate the recovery of materials and resources that have been made available to different neighborhood initiatives. Negotiation processes have been opened and consolidated in 18 agreements that open up channels for citizens to manage existing public resources.
These ten years have been of great intensity and we need to share and celebrate with all the co-participants and co-producers this important moment that builds a life story that is articulated around our collective practice.
The Ten of TXP
Throughout these years we have developed our own work methodology that is common to the different processes. We start from a previous diagnosis that allows us to understand the keys, codes and particularities of each process. We define a context for collaborative design where the proposal is prototyped according to collective interests. In our practice we propose a cocktail shaker that modulates the proposal according to available parameters (resources, tools, financing, time), this allows us to define a consensus model that responds in a resilient way. We propose contexts of collective construction that define learning contexts as a tool for appropriation and citizen empowerment. And finally, we define management models that respond to the needs of each case, establishing protocols for use and maintenance.
We are interested in telling this story from ten projects that address different scales and contexts, responding to the interests of each community. These ten cases are representative and display a repertoire of TXP's ways of doing things.
The Usera cinema is located in the Usera neighbourhood of Madrid, the result of a participatory process of the neighbourhood's neighbourhoods and grassroots cultural associations. The device is made up of different modules (bleachers, benches, stage) that are articulated to form a scattered camp that makes possible the activity of cinema and other cultural activities that are programmed by the neighborhood. 2014 Madrid ( TXP, kubik fabric, Zofio Neighborhood Association, Espacio Oculto, Rio Park).
Taz Island is installed in Luxembourg as an intervention of ephemeral architecture that remains in the public space for three months. This scaffolded intervention with a new jersey barrier skin takes place on three levels. This device is proposed as an urban activator in two senses: on the one hand, an urban regeneration in the square in which it is inserted and, on the other, an artifact connecting the city's citizens' initiatives. 2015 Luxembourg (TXP).
The process of La Y Cultural Center is a complex process of urban acupuncture where a self-built housing construction is transformed into a community facility. This process, articulated through a participatory process, is a hybrid of a workshop and a work of conventional architecture. This format allowed the proposal to be developed in five weeks and the working methodology was the development of the project during the process. 2015 Caracas/Venezuela (TXP, Pico colectivo, PGRC)
The Bar La fábrica device proposes the recovery of a disused industrial warehouse to transform it into a pavilion that will house a bar associated with the adjacent cultural infrastructure. The proposal proposes a minimal intervention in this device by making holes in this tank to enable it to be used for the new purpose. The exterior area was fitted out by means of a pergola that is resolved by means of a network of vertical elements using recycled lighting poles. 2015 Los Santos de Maimona/ Spain ( TXP, Straddle 3, La fabrica, La col).
In the Barley field we developed a multipurpose pavilion that is articulated in an evolutionary process. This device is a field of prototyping and experimentation by the user community adapting it to their needs and interests. 2012 Madrid/ Spain ( TXP).
In the case of Tandem, we propose urban furniture that allows energy autonomy in public spaces through clean energy. A mechanized light metal structure is designed to allow easy disassembly. On this structure are located the solar panels and the accumulation batteries that allow to have 2KW/hour at the free disposal of the citizens' initiatives of the neighborhood. 2017 Madrid/Spain (TXP).
In Bogada we intervene by means of a ductile intervention of orthodox tactical urbanism, being a device that allows to test the public space and its potentialities.
2017 Istanbul/Turkey (TXP, Speaking in Art, Herkes İçin Mimarlık (Architecture for All), -Trak- Design Trak).
In the Gymnasium El Risco a collective construction process is articulated to develop a structure that allows the development of multiple playground activities through its resignification and minimum qualification, making possible diverse uses. 2017 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria / Spain (TXP, Pico colectivo, AACC).
In Amos Acero we work with the premise of working with recycled materials that provide a space for the development of grassroots cultural activities for the neighborhood where it is inserted. An existing grandstand was also recovered and incorporated into the proposal through a mural painting intervention that generated a new identity, revaluing this degraded and stigmatized place. 2015 Madrid/ Spain (TXP).
In Callan Bubble we work with the hybridization of techniques and languages that are deployed to enable an infrastructure that meets the needs of the community that supports it by generating a multipurpose relational space. 2015 Callan/ Ireland (TXP).
