The architecture studio based in Barcelona, Arquitectura-G, was commissioned to design the renovation of an former house in which the urban regulations required the maintenance of the façade facing the street.

The studio, led by Jonathan Arnabat, Jordi Ayala-Bril, Aitor Fuentes and Igor Urdampilleta, designed the house from behind the façade, dialoguing and opening onto an interesting rear garden.
The building designed by Arquitectura-G has a plot that descends two levels towards the rear garden, which allows the house to gain in spatiality, and unfold in almost 400 square meters.

Embracing the garden and also opening up completely to it, the structure of the house is basically organized around large slabs supported by the dividing walls. Inside, the slabs are broken and allow a large interior vertical space illuminated from above, to which balconies and circulations open.

As in other projects, vegetation plays an important role, becoming the accent that enhances the spaces.

Project description by Arquitectura-G

This is a house behind an old façade that descends with split levels towards the back garden, where the house reveals its real size.

The levels are formed by slabs that cover the span between party walls so the house is fully open. The slabs are broken in the middle of the house dividing it in two parts and creating interior balconies where all circulations happen. This central area is crowned by a skylight that brings natural light to the whole.

The vegetation plays a fundamental role in the house as it runs through all areas, both interior and exterior, being present in all views.

It is a serie of conversations about architecture held between members of ARCHITECTURE-G, the philosopher Ekhi Lopetegi and several young architects whose work has sparked interest in the profession, society and the media.
