Barcelona architecture studio Arquitectura-G was commissioned to design the renovation of a small factory in a creative 'hub’ in the 22@district, in the Poblenou neighborhood, in Barcelona.

Acid House Barcelona is part of the working group of the so-called 'Creative Barcelona Cluster', developed by the Tourism and Creative Industries of the City Council of Barcelona, articulated around the Museum of Disseny of Barcelona, DHUB.

It also has the support of the Poblenou Urban District association, whose main objective is to promote and promote the creative and cultural community of Poblenou, as well as to position this district as a creative and cultural reference in Barcelona.
The new creative hub designed by Arquitectura-G has almost 500 m² organized in: a studio-set dedicated to education; a conference area; a window gallery that will host exhibitions that can be seen from the street; a space for creative companies, such as OFFF Barcelona, and that will allow business synergies in the field of creativity and design; and a coffee shop of Normad Coffee.

"Up to now, in Barcelona a lot of attention has been paid to the technological ecosystem, but currently, design, production and creative agencies are some of the most important business catalytic agents in the city, fundamental in the projection of the Barcelona brand. Acid House Barcelona aims to make this reality visible and, therefore, be a connector between business and creative environment," explains Albert Folch, creative director and founder of Folch Studio.

Acid House Barcelona is an initiative of Folch Studio that has the support of adidas Originals, the Elisava design school, Folch Studio, Nomad Coffee, OFFF Barcelona and Vice Media.

Project description by Arquitectura-G

The project consisted in the transformation of an old factory into a cultural and creative centre for entrepreneurship and business innovation. The building is composed of two aisles, the main one, a double pitched roof volume and the second one, a double height ceiling space. The project is located in the Poblenou neighbourhood of Barcelona and accommodates different types of businesses and projects, such as Folch, Elisava, Vice, Nomad coffee, Whitehorse and Offf all joined under the name of Acid House Barcelona.

The project is planned for a 10 years period span, which ultimately led the project to be influenced by an economy of means. By strategically placing the different actors involved the configuration and distribution of the pre-existing factory space has been respected and preserved - an office in the main aisle, classroom, bathrooms, office and workspace in the adjacent one.

The area of direct contact with the street on the ground floor has been used to place offices, shop windows, cafeteria and meeting rooms, consequently serving as a filter with the private spaces.

With the aim of unifying the space, the very diverse pre existing materials and textures of the factory, were painted with a single colour. The juxtaposition of the glass enclosures and the wooden flooring, the sprayed plaster combined with the textures of the masonry walls as well as the riveted beams and trussed the industrial past of the place is ordered and yet valued.

The possibilities of different use of the spaces are expressed through mobile furniture such as mobile tables, stands or staircase, which ultimately are detached from the fixed built matter. The vegetation brings a colourful note to the set and is put into use by enclosing a meeting room in the main space.

Arquitectura-G is a studio of architecture founded in 2006 based in Barcelona, by Jonathan Arnabat, Jordi Ayala-Bril, Aitor Fuentes and Igor Urdampilleta, mainly dedicated to construction and teaching. They understand their work as a team, where individualities are dissolved in an addition of ways of doing. Material aspect is fundamental for the them, seing it as a field of research. Currently the office includes small projects and starts a new stage to approach larger projects.

In 2008 created ESCRITOS-G as learning tool and to improve the business, with the desire to create a critical discourse and trigger discussion about contemporary architecture. It is a serie of conversations about architecture held between members of ARCHITECTURE-G, the philosopher Ekhi Lopetegi and several young architects whose work has sparked interest in the profession, society and the media.

In 2011 launched INDOORS a section focused on reformulation and internal reorganization of urban housing adapted to living contemporary culture.
