A space of 700 m². How to transform a former textile industry in a home for a bachelor? was the challenge posed to the Barcelona architecture studio, ARQUITECTURA-G.
The project renew an old tailoring shop of 10×70m into a house for a single person including a studio area and an artistic creation workshop. Two main objectives were pursued: to design a dwelling, and that at no time should the perception of being in a single space of a singular character be lost.

ARQUITECTURA-G tried not so much to create a domestic space, (a wild animal that has learned to live with you but will never stop being one, and its instinct will remind you from time to time what of its real nature).

Description of project by ARQUITECTURA-G

The assignment consisted of transforming an old tailoring shop of 10×70m into a house for a single person. In addition to the usual requirements of a home, the needs program included a studio area and an artistic creation workshop.

Two main objectives have been pursued. On the one hand, to define a space of a comprehensible human scale in the context of a warehouse of great proportions. On the other hand, as a counterpoint, that at no time should the perception of being in a single space of a singular character be lost.

Thus, the project proposes a series of divisions of various kinds, which articulate the space according to the needs of the program without the use of any door. These independent objects -partitions that form right angles, a tiered sofa- never come into contact with the perimeter walls or ceiling, preserving the visual continuity of the original diaphanous space.

In addition, the perimeter in contact with the outside has been manipulated, displacing the carpentry line towards the interior. In this way, two large separating elements are created and bring inside the exterior natural air, light and vegetation; the triangular terrace and the small garden by the kitchen.

We have tried not so much to create a domestic space, but to tame it, as a wild animal that has learned to live with you but will never stop being one. You will enjoy its presence and its beauty, but its instinct will remind you from time to time what of its real nature.

Arquitectura-G is a studio of architecture founded in 2006 based in Barcelona, by Jonathan Arnabat, Jordi Ayala-Bril, Aitor Fuentes and Igor Urdampilleta, mainly dedicated to construction and teaching. They understand their work as a team, where individualities are dissolved in an addition of ways of doing. Material aspect is fundamental for the them, seing it as a field of research. Currently the office includes small projects and starts a new stage to approach larger projects.

In 2008 created ESCRITOS-G as learning tool and to improve the business, with the desire to create a critical discourse and trigger discussion about contemporary architecture. It is a serie of conversations about architecture held between members of ARCHITECTURE-G, the philosopher Ekhi Lopetegi and several young architects whose work has sparked interest in the profession, society and the media.

In 2011 launched INDOORS a section focused on reformulation and internal reorganization of urban housing adapted to living contemporary culture.
