In a place of great patrimonial value and with a natural environment of irregular topography, Carlos Seoane designed O´Banco do Piñeiro with the idea of building a path to a point from which other spontaneous paths can emerge.

With the aim of generating these paths in an environment where diverse heritage values - historical, landscape, botanical - come together, the project builds the minimum, with an exceptional sensitivity, managing to create a special place to appreciate nature.
Carlos Seoane intervenes in this natural context with the firm intention of provoking different perceptions, beyond the usual ones, in the observation of the landscape, in order to understand all the dimensions of this incredible place.

The intervention is supported by a strategy similar to that used by Dimitris Pikionis in the realization of the viewpoints and paths of Mount Filopappou. Carlos Seoane uses exclusively recycled materials, as fundamental tool to carry out the project. Recycling slabs, cobblestones and elements raised or rejected in other cities, the remains of other interventions become a key piece to masterfully build this magical place.

Description of project by Carlos Seoane

The way

The strategy of this project is to create paths in an environment where diverse heritage values such as historic, landscape and botanical ones come together. The main intention is to build a path towards a point from which other spontaneous paths can emerge.

The idea is to build the minimum to generate the greatest interest and “to provoke different perceptions and thus understand all the dimensions of this place including the visual, acoustic and olfactory ones among others. That final spot of the path and the beginning of others is marked by a cubic stone bench and a protective metal railing for visitors in wheelchairs.

Recycling

The first element proposed was by using only recycled materials, basically slabs and raised cobblestones that were rejected in other cities and collected in a nearby warehouse that we took advantage of making all the pavements for the project.

Accessibility

In a place of such a heritage value, but in a natural environment with irregular topography, we propose a path accompanied by a railing to help the movement of people with a disability so that this environment of identity importance can be shared by all the people independent of their mobility.

What are the whispers saying?

"What are the whispers saying?" It is the phrase that is engraved on the support railing for the handicapped and that marks the end of the path, based on the poem by Eduardo Pondal “Os Pinos” (The Pine Trees) and origin of the Galician anthem. The complete phrase goes like this: What are the whispers saying on the green coast?, which means: what do the Galician people say?
