For those who still don´t know the meaning of it,P.I.G.S. is the acronym of Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain. We show you some images of teh event.
Description of the event.-
The last chapter of P.I.G.S., the international project about Art and Social activism curated by Escuela Moderna/Ateneo Libertario, took place last weekend, 28th and 29th of June, in the historical headquarters of B.O.E.S.G. (Biblioteca e Observatòrio dos Estragos da Sociedade Globalizada) in Lisbon.
P.I.G.S is an acronym for Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain, four countries in the Mediterranean area that are often pointed out as ‘pigs’ by some northeuropean press as well as by many jouralists. The economical crisis encourages an offensive language in mass communication, which artists approach with an ironical perspective. P.I.G.S. can even stand as an acronym for Police, Infiltrators, Guards and Slaves; but it can even remind Poetry, Imagination, Generosity and Solidarity. During the previous editions participants have actively contributed with different methods and topics: the project has already been exposed in Athens (A.R.T.H.E.S.I.S., Nosotros Social Centre), Roma (AuditoriumArte, MAAM–Museo dell’altro e dell’altrove de Metropoliz), Barcelona, with La Ravala, (Arts Santa Mònica, Ágora Juan Andrés, Casa de la Solidaritat, Llibreria Veusambveu, Reial Cercle Artístic), through a remarkable video review, performances, meetings and debates. The appointment in Lisbon was attended by Silva Manuela Branco Jorge, Mario Rui Gomes Pinto, Alessandro Zorzetto, Andrea Staid, Massimo Mazzone.

Z / Ζει! [Athens, 2015]
Is the urban action that Laura Cazzaniga developed in March, in Athens, inside the big program on art and activism P.I.G.S.
The Z is a letter that has a very special meaning in Greece. Z referring to the Greek protest slogan “Ζει”, which in ancient Greek means “He lives / He is alive”. It became a very popular graffiti that began to appear everywhere in the Greek cities during the 1960’s, illustrating the growing protests against the Regime of the Colonels (1967-1974), following repeated political murders, the most renowned being the assassination of the peace-activist and left-deputy Gregory Lambrakis, in 1963.
The military junta ended up banning it, but then it was taken up and renewed in the famous political novel “Z”(1967) of Vassillis Vassilikos and, later, in the award-winning film “Z” directed by Costa-Gavras.
The Z is, therefore, in Greece, a symbol of dissension and resistance, a very sharp simulacrum of denounce, that Laura Cazzaniga decided to take it up, after many years, restoring its purpose in the current Greek’s financial and social crisis.
To do so, she attached hundreds of Z’s for all over Athens, going to the seat of Parliament, in Syntagma Square, to the NTUA Polytechnic, a historical place of students’ revolts, and to the anarchist neighborhood of Exarchia.
