Born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan in 1973. In 1996 graduated from the Department of Architecture at Kyushu University. Studying at the Berlage Institute in Amsterdam, he works at Office for Metropolitan Architecture since 1998. He became an associate since 2004. He has taken charge of many buildings including: Extension of Whitney Museum (a+u: 03:11), New York; Koningin Julianaplein, the Haag (a+u: 03:11); New Headquarters for Central Chinese Television; Skyscraper compeition in Tokyo; and the Extension of National Museum Competition, Beijing as a project leader or project designer. He is in charge of the exhibition design of “Waist Down”.
Shohei Shigematsu, OMA partner and director of the New York office, lectures on OMA's projects in the Americas, including a new building for the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. The lecture, on 30 September, took place at the Musée de la civilisation in Quebec City as part of the University Laval School of Architecture's 2010-2011 conference series.
