Both the existing building's renovation as well as its extension project, seek to strengthen the relation between the Montserrat School and the city. Architects Alarcón & Matosas enlarge the access and pedestrian circulation while they also solve the parking area.
Thus, the actions they carry out have as goal that the School keeps its role as an active part of the city with its renovation, its growth and its new students.
Description of the project by Alarcón & Matosas
The project for the extension and renovation of the Montserrat School is based in both the remodeling of the existing building and in the construction of a new building in the garden area which has access from the Vallvidrera Avenue.
The genesis of the project begins with the necessity of giving solution to car parking and school buses, the necessity of a new extension of the School and the necessity of restoring the pre-existing building roof.
With the chosen solution it is enhanced the relation between the School and its surrounding area, with the extension of the pedestrian area and the resolution of the traffic circulation.
The goal is to achieve an habitable garden.
The extension and restoration of the existing building is focused on the following actions:
– The construction of a classroom building for Bachillerato.
– The reconstruction of the fifth floor, as house for the owner community of the center (absolutely determined by the structure's geometry) while renewing the building's roof.
– The fourth floor restoration as consequence of fifth floor works which allows to get spaces adjusted to current School necessities.
– Access renovation to the existing School and its relation with the new building.
