Architecture studio Juan Navarro Arquitectos designed the new bus and taxi station in the municipality of Torrox, Málaga. Located on the coast of the CN-340 National Highway, the proposal seeks to unify the existing bus stop and taxi rank, creating a single intermodal station and prioritizing accessibility and intercommunication between services.

The project arises as a response to the need to redistribute roads and pedestrian sidewalks to optimize public spaces, ordering transit and waiting areas for users, making them more adapted and accessible. The architectural solution of the proposal maintains the existing modules for taxi drivers and restrooms and relocates the stairs, creating an axis between both stations.
The proposal from the Juan Navarro Arquitectos studio creates a complex that expands and opens when vehicles reach it and contracts when it is left behind. Three new roofs were designed at three different levels located at the taxi stand, the bus stop and over the communications core, each one adapting to the needs of its location.

The construction system of the roofs is made up of sheets of EFTE, thus unifying the whole. The material was designed to filter UVA rays and allow clarity to pass through, which is also achieved through a diaphanous structure, with which light is gained and the views of the Mediterranean Sea are recovered.

Description of project by Juan Navarro Arquitectos

Bus and Taxi Station for the municipality of Torrox. Located on the coast on the National Highway CN-340. The project occupies the old taxi stand at a lower level and the existing bus stop at the level of the CN-340.

The project unifies the existing bus stop and taxi rank on the CN-340, creating a single intermodal station, and prioritizing accessibility and intercommunication between services. The actions in the existing state consist of the redistribution of roads and pedestrian sidewalks for optimization of public spaces, ordering the transit and waiting areas for users; making them 100% adapted and accessible.

The project maintains the existing modules for taxi drivers and toilets, eliminating the sloping roofs and relocating the stairs, creating an axis between both stations.

Three decks are projected at three different levels located at the taxi stand, the bus stop and over the communications core, each one adapting to the needs of its location. All roofs are developed under the same construction system using sheets of EFTE, thus unifying the whole.

The choice of EFTE as the main material for the roofs is given by its versatility when it comes to combining the joint image of the roofs both during the day and at night, always projecting and revealing the load-bearing structure through the backlighting of the sheets. Being the same element of the roofs that protect from the sun's rays and provides shade during the day and illuminates and shelter at night.

Given the location and position of the station with respect to the national highway and the duality of users of the project, it has been tried to create a building that allows dialogue and a particular perception with the passengers, who, either by bus or taxi, travel the national CN- 340, creating a set that expands and opens when vehicles reach it and contracts when left behind.
