Gustavo Gili presents the new book Passivhaus, a new volume of Micheel Wassouf, which shows the concept of "passive architecture". Besides, this volume explains the Passivhaus standard and explores its application within the territories of warm climates.

Gustavo Gili. Even though the concept of "passive house" dates back to the 1970s, it was not until the creation of Passivhaus (standard German origin energy optimization for construction of homes) when this practice of sustainable architecture became to adulthood. Since the first Passivhaus building was built in Germany in the early 1990s, the Passivhaus convention has been successfully used in buildings located all over the world, from the cold city of Oslo to the tropical city of Shanghai.

This book of Gustavo Gili editorial shows the concept of passive architecture, explains the Passivhaus standard and explores its application within the territories of warm climates. With a practical and direct approach, the author presents the basics of this construction standards, with the current technologies which its works and  the fundamental guidelines for use in countries with temperate and warm climates. The book is divided into three chapters: the passive architecture, the Passivhaus standard and a third block where the PHPP tool is applied to buildings reference cities with warm and tropical climates like Madrid, Lisbon, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro. In addition, it presents various examples of Passivhaus buildings which demonstrate the viability of this standard buildings in these areas.

Micheel Wassouf (Damascus, 1968) is an architect from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany. He has worked as an architect in several European countries and currently lives in Spain. His company called Energiehaus has developed the first buildings of Iberian Peninsula according to the Passivhaus protocol and he has trained some spanish architects about this subject.
