Description of project by Smartvoll
The new market hall located in Salzburg is not only used for upgrading the neighborhood - the concept is to create an own, small urban village inside the hall. A space for service and wellness can´t be missing. As you can see in the market hall, also the part of building which is arranged on the first floor is build up with a special concept – and fits consequently perfectly to the master plan of the “Panzerhalle” (engl. panzer hall).
The character of the loft, that you can see everywhere in the industrial hall – is interpreted here with the concept of “box in box”. The hairstyle, the manicure and pedicure, massage, waxing and the tattoo – the offer is as varied and individual as the business model. All service providers are self-employed, offer their services and pay rent on sales. This rental model is also noticeable in the spatial concept. You walk in the space between the boxes, as through narrow, urban streets, with small shops.
The main place is the registration desk - different patterns create the space, a mixture of comics and graffiti which can be found on the ceilings and walls, on the furniture and the floor. If you look more closely, you can discover thematic references to the individual functions of the "Beauty & Style" areas.
The different patterns were designed by Jonathan Calugi - the Italian illustrator, based in London, has developed three motifs for the different suppliers. In the reception area, all three have become a pattern. You must look carefully, and always find clues in the continuous picture on the wall or ceiling.
This idea originated from the different perceptions of space. If you must wait, or if you get a treatment – you have time to look and practically read the surfaces, above and below, right and left. The design is based on the basic concept of a nonhierarchical room, which can be enlivened depending on the action. Again, this smartvoll-concept thinks of many dimensions and speeds of its users. Everything depends on the detail.
